I am a young photographer living in Tumut. I have been photographing exclusively in medium and large film formats for 5 years. My photographs can normally be found hanging in the restaurant of the Amaroo Motel. The majority of my shots are now taken with a wooden folding view camera, although i sometimes dabble with pin hole medium format.
The process of shooting with a view camera is slow and exact. It takes time and patience. Time is spent composing a shot, focusing and adjusting the camera to give it the correct interpretation, and level of detail required. This is all done under a dark cloth. The image being taken is viewed upon a glass screen, upside down and back to front. After the shot is composed, an exposure reading of the image must be taken manually. From these readings, I then make a judgement on the correct exposure needed for the shot. Nothing is done automatically. The exposure is then made onto the film. All of my photographs on display were shot on Fuji Velvia film.
My camera uses film that is 4x5inches in size, which is 15 times the area of 35mm film. I am often asked what megapixel my camera is? As my photographs are produced using an analogue process it is hard to equate it to digital terms, but an approximation commonly used is about 115 megapixels.
